Whirlwind
I was at a conference all week where for the first time in my career it felt like the pressure was all on me. That’s a weird thing for me to write but that was my general thinking. I won’t bore you with too many details but to give you an overview: we had 1/3 the expected attendance for a number of reasons but it was still a great time. My problems mostly revolve around talent.
Booking professional speakers comes with a lot of headaches. The higher the cost the worse the trouble and this time was no different. Instead of showing up a day in advance and ready to rehearse he decided to take the last flight in the night before and do his walkthrough a half hour before we opened the doors.
My friend and I spent that night planning alternative content in case he got delayed in any way but it was a lot of avoidable annoyance. Once he landed and arrived at the venue I relaxed a bit but the next day his notes and presentation weren’t sinking up and he kept calling it out from stage while the show was underway. Fuckinghell.
Everything turned out in the end but I tell you all this so you know what a ball of stress I was during the week. The event officially ended on Friday but our team stayed back to clean up and ship things back home. Once that was finished it was wheels up. Details are a little fuzzy but I will show you a note I wrote to myself the next morning as I tried to get my bed to stop spinning.
Yesterday was a struggle from start to finish but I made it home to sleep in clean sheets. So I will finish resting up today to begin the grind again in the morning. Good times.
