This was a strange one. Teaching this week in not so scenic Birmingham Alabama and it was every bit as weird as expected. Almost as if it was a requirement to be strange every interaction had a tilt. I don’t have a single story that illustrates it adequately. Just a weird week.
Then I imported some odd of my own as I was struggling with a new relationship in my life. Not fair to write about it other than to say it ended over the phone Thursday night. Feelings were caught and feelings were not, what seemed easy got immediately hard, decisions were made.
And so the search continues for someone that I both enjoy their company and share a mutual attraction. It doesn’t seem like a tall order but who knows. At some point I’ll probably just pause the relationship hunt for a while and just go the random hookup route until that gets old or annoying. I don’t want to waste the upcoming drinking and recreating outdoors season so I will figure it out.
In other news this was the first time in all my travel years where I couldn’t find a ride from a hotel to the airport. My prescheduled ride was a no show. Both Uber and Lyft had no drivers available. Both local cab companies had wait times over an hour which would have jammed me up time wise.
I ended up cycling through all the available ride types until I found the only available driver by picking Lyft XL. There were two kids from Detroit panicking in the lobby as well so I let them ride with me.
They were just finishing a two day Mercedes Benz immersion course. They work in the service department of their dealership and got to tour the factory as well as drive all of the SUVs on various courses. That company knows how to convince every employee about the value of their products.
We mad it to the airport and are now trying to take off before the tornados get here...
