The game's afoot
I figured out my perfect living situation but it doesn't exist anymore. I would love to live Sherlock Holmes style with some modern convenience updates. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about he basically rented rooms in a boarding house. There was a parlor or sitting room where you did the bulk of your hanging out including meals and entertaining. Then you had a bed chamber or what we would now call a bedroom. Your meals were included in the rent along with weekly maid service and all of that was handled in the communal kitchen on the first floor.
This was the late 1800s in London so bathrooms weren't really a thing and that's what I mean by convenience updates. Central heating and cooling existed in the forms of fireplaces and windows so I will need an update there as well. Burning coal indoors was a proven life span reducer. Anyway, my ideal situation would be a powder room off of the main room for guests and a master bath attached to the bedroom. All of the modern luxuries with a lot less ass pain.
I don't think I'm alone in this either. If I did it right, meaning building one that had enough units to make financial sense, I think this idea could be popular. My current apartment is more space than I need. If I could shrink it down just a bit but include some services that made life easier... Seriously, I think this one might have legs.
Here's why its appealing to me. Current society is designed to keep you in your home. Improve your house, decorate your living space, buy the best ___, upgrade to the latest. This situation would take some of that bullshit away and push you to get out into the world. I realize we are still dealing with a pandemic but you get the idea. I want the place I live to be a small part of my life that I don't really have to worry much about. That's why this idea has my head spinning. I will shut up now but this one has made the official development list.
