Pete Pan
I might not be as young as I assumed and there was some proof this weekend. The blurry picture above was a 6:00am start at a bar where I used to work. Not much has changed in 35ish years and that's a good thing. My friends ate the chili for old times sake but having once been the bartender/bouncer/chef I just couldn't pull the trigger. By the way that's my youngest child's shoulder and ear. I was proud of the youngster and his friends for posting up early. Another college buddy who did not make the bar had a son in attendance as well which made me happy for their generation.
We started there for a couple hours and then it was off to the tailgate after a $50 detour through the McDonalds drive through to help my half buzzed collegiate companions. I pulled around a packed cooler on wheels which also served as my seat. I should have brought a parasol because it was Africa hot. Air temperature was 96 and a bunch of people had thermometers registering well over 100on the tarmac. That did not really slow the drinking much to my later chagrin.
I climbed up the welded on sundeck for this picture but immediately wanted to get back down. My inner warning alarms were screaming so I missed a chance to take a penthouse view shot. Oh well, we know the bus people and they had some amazing food just out of the smoker. I hopped around for five hours and then began to not feel so good. I made my way to a bar to lower my core temperature and enjoy the game. I usually just scalp a ticket but the prices were ridiculous and there is little shade inside the stadium.
By the third quarter I was so pissed that I changed location to try to change the juju. It didn't work. I made my way back to the tailgates and hung out there until the boys were ready to go to dinner. I know I'm old because life hurts today. I got up at 5:30 and hit the road. I was home by 8:30 and ready for a nap but did not fall to temptation. Any sleep today would be dangerous as I could easily wake up tomorrow morning in the same clothes not knowing where I was. I have been plagued by random cramps and an unexplainable ear ache.
I am pretty sure this little post doesn't make much sense but I am trying to act normal because this is a normal Sunday activity. I'll reread it tomorrow and if its as bad as I think I might try again.
