looong day
I had to get up at 4:00am to make sure I got to the airport in time this morning for the early flight only to be delayed at takeoff. It’s not the worst thing in the world but it started my day on a decidedly salty note. The first sign that I wasn’t in a great headspace was the asshat at TSA acting like he was the only person at the airport who needed to catch a flight. He told everyone who would listen that his plane was about to board and he needed to cut in front of them. Didn’t ask if he could just assumed priority treatment.
I was prepared not allow this to happen but he wisely jumped ahead of me by two people and threw his bag on the belt. Then as he was being waived through the metal detector he proceeded to *beep takes his belt off… *beep next up was the watch which he insisted the TSA dude hold because he wasn’t putting it through the machine… *beep now it was the shoes and those had to go on the belt after my bags because his little sideshow took that long. Finally he made it through but he had to wait for his metal lined loafers to follow my shit out.
I don’t think I have ever taken longer to reassemble my travel gear including putting my jacket on as if I had no idea how sleeves worked. He tried to reach around me but I turned full frontal into him which immediately backed him off. Looking straight into his eyes I didn’t say anything or move until he backed up and then I smiled, called him a fucking idiot, and went on my merry way.
That made my morning just a bit better so the delay didn’t really bother me. It was a pleasant flight except the woman next to me fell into a deep sleep and at one point her head lolled in my general direction. Not sure what was happening with her breath but that mimosa didn’t do her any favors. The smell reminded me of my son’s laundry while he was navigating puberty. Once detected it was to be avoided at all costs.
I aimed both of our air vents at her face hole in an effort to dissipate the stench but some of it was making it through my defenses. I tried gently bumping her arm to the level that at one point I was worried she might have passed away. (add that to the list of things I DON’T want to experience on a plane) but luckily the sky waitress woke her up because her leg had drifted out into the common area creating a trip hazard.
My saltiness came back as I rushed into a meeting where things I had asked to be done weren’t so I felt the strong need to review the complete list with the two offenders. To clear my head after that I went for a walk and it is beautiful out here this week. I’m in Seattle and that picture is from the trip in. this is the first time I could see all three of those mountains/volcanos (I’m sorry I don’t know what those are but apparently sometimes the mountains out here blow their tops hence my confusion. And in my defense when you look at them sticking out above the regular mountains…) Anyway, I’m finally writing in this as I attempt to stay awake my first night. Going to bed at 8 does me no good as I will just wake up between three and four with nothing to do and nowhere to go.
