I've started things better
This weekend is cut short thanks to the good people at Sunday work travel. I’m heading to California this morning for a Monday meeting. The meeting is great but cranky old me is salty over the details. First up, a Monday morning meeting. Do these people experience a different first day of the week than the rest of the working world? Then is the late morning start time. I think that they think a late start might make up for the Monday thing but they don’t know that it is turning me into an animated pillar of salt.
The time change flying West always jams me up. Two hours doesn’t seem like a lot until you are trying to live your live dialed back by that amount. My internal clock wakes me up at 5:30am Central. That will be 3:30 California time for those not mathematically following along. I’ll lie there and fight it but my norm on day one is to give up somewhere around 4:30. This means that the 10:30 meeting start happens 6 hours into my day. To add on to the annoyance the locals are used to a later leisurely dinner which will result in some hopefully hidden hangry on my part. I am just venting because I’m up, packed, and ready to drive to the airport on one of my precious Tom can do anything that crosses his mind days.
I am going to stop whining now and take a page from my youngest Childs book. I got a text two days ago that just had the following picture…
I immediately shifted into dad mode and asked what happened. His extremely detailed and satisfying response was “no idea.” When I asked if he was okay his answer was “Ya, I’ve got to get back to work. I’ll figure it out later.” I can’t get mad at his priorities and he wasn’t even phased by something that had me in let’s get this fixed asap mode. When I did finally talk to him he said the car was shaking all the way to work so he looked at it when he got out and took that picture…
He also got his spare tire out and fired up YouTube to learn the best way to change from that shredded mess into his tiny little donut spare. Apparently he is in process of acquiring a new tire but he doesn’t seem concerned so neither am I. I will also try to apply this general philosophy to this weeks meeting. Just worry about the important parts or some bullshit like that. not a great start
