Goodby old friend
Packing is a good time to purge accumulated nonsense from your life and in just one short year I’ve picked up a surprising amount. Some of the things I buy are stunning in their useless stupidity. Aside from my former kickstarter while drinking problem I do make some impulse purchases that baffle future Tom. The new place has less square footage than this current one so adjustments have to be made and stuff needs to be dumped or donated.
The hardest of the bunch was my roommate Chuck.
I was in a bad place when I moved here after the divorce. I took about 6 months and closed down my personal life. Tried some dating but that went from zero to dumpster fire in a blink so I shelved that as well. Along the way I came across this seven foot cardboard bear that made me laugh. I have always joked about my kids temporarily stuffing me in an attacking bear pose for my wake but it turns out that might not be legal. laws… So my middle child has an attacking dad picture somewhere in her archives that I hope will make it to the wake.
Anyway, that’s why the bear made me laugh. Over time I began concocting a backstory of how Chuck and I came to live together. It’s a tale that centers around his failed attempts to become a DJ in the human world with little to no success and I was looking for someone to keep me company when we struck up a friendship. I did NOT have a psychotic break I’m just easily amused. By the way: his dalliance with the Hip Hop Lifestyle explained his gold rope name chain.
So today I dropped Chuck off at the Goodwill to hopefully bring joy into someone else’s life. Our time together has run its course and sadly there is no room in my new booji digs. Vaya con dios mi amigo.
And for those long time readers who may be concerned, the Christmas tree stays. It will live in the closet until the appropriate time of year. This thing is my perfect apartment tree and travel companion.
That shitshow in the background is the snowstorm messing with my weekend trips over to my new place. Such is life in the great white north.
