Erie day
The transfer of power is not going smoothly and I'm not talking about this just-past-shite-show of an election. This is my last official day working from this home office and the transition of power of which I speak is the utility switch. It turns out that every company has very different rules and procedures when changing bills over to a new responsible party. I kind of understand but also don't get why it always has to have a sprinkling of difficulty. With this happening to half of the people you would think every company out there would have a So, You're Getting Divorced page. An online form that once complete would make the necessary changes. nope.
Take our internet and cable provider. They immediately went to who is going to sign the new contract and for how long and were very concerned about possible monies owed rather than try to help with the process. (by the way I am in a constant state of credit balance with these idiots over poor service so they might actually owe me which makes their little comment even more annoying) Couple that with the completely unreliable service over the last six months and the new sole owner of this house decided to switch companies. We uninstalled the old and tried to self install the new with no luck so I burned two hours redoing everything. This morning finds me with shaky wifi and a full schedule. Not ideal.
I tell you all this not to complain but to explain my general sense of unease. I am mostly packed up which means my desk is down to a laptop, papers, and Diet Coke. Oh, and my cell phone because my VOIP phone won't properly function over the wifi. Its just weird and echoey. Its also the end of an era so there's that... No one is dying, were still friends, but this is a pisser.
I'm off to California for the week then back here for a day. Once I load up the car I head North to grab my new keys and start the move in process. You will probably be more informed that you want to be as I begin my new life and I wouldn't blame anyone for getting annoyed. Two days in to setting up the new digs my son will be completing his last final exam for the semester and I will swing down and bring him back here for Thanksgiving. Actually beyond Thanksgiving because his next semester doesn't start until late January.
Also important I get back because my neighborhood friends all gather and play poker the Wednesday night before the holiday. priorities.
Enough procrastination for now. I need to get at it.
