counting down
One of my friends asked how much time I had left in Illinois as we were discussing the completely screwed up politics in this broken state. Technically I have two and a half weeks of Illinois living left but there is a lot of travel mixed in. Two weeks from today I will be packing for my drive to Minnesota that Sunday. That Monday morning I will pick up my keys, unload the tiny truck and make a supply run. Then, once the boy completes his last final that Wednesday, I will swing down -grab him- head back to Illinois to play poker with my friends, celebrate Thanksgiving at the house with family, possibly Black Friday shop for the new place, and head back to start my new situation. (holy shit that last sentence was a tire fire. apologies)
I have two multi day work trips over the next two weeks straight which basically leaves ten days in state. We do have some decoupling left to do like switching all bills over to the new owner of the house including a potential internet company switch. I am volunteering to help with that because it is unfamiliar territory for my soon to be ex. Truth be told she hates everything about it but she and the kids will need the www so it has to happen. Our current company has been incredibly unreliable and they just bumped the price. again. So they will get a shot but it better be good because other choices are available.
The final step won't happen until calendar 2021 because the IRS takes your marital status on the last day of the year and applies it to the entire taxation period. That would screw us both up so a month apart but not officially divorced won't kill anyone. I think switching all the bills will be harder than the actual dissolution of marriage. Unless something drastic changes between now and then the whole thing will take place over video with the judge reading the mediation stuff and us agreeing. Seems like an anticlimactic end to this multiyear journey but that is probably just me.
I will find some semi self destructive way to turn the page on this chapter. Stay tuned or just come back in January.
