This thing was a lot easier to write in when I was struggling at work and or dating. My current job is fun. It fills my entire day with solving problems and helping people all while working for an organization based on logic. That might seem like a low bar but my previous employer managed to make this job feel like I’m working in a dream. And then last week I got to hang out with our entire growing team which was even more fun. Again last job I had my core friends and everyone else fell into layers of tolerance and dislike. Probably a me problem but that is how it was.
This morning found me on a longer than normal forced march as I have been really enjoying myself on the road. This translates to eating and drinking like an asshole and it’s time to course correct. The hardest walk around here involves hills, the biggest of which can be found over by the river.
Here I am at the top which happens to be the state veteran’s home overlooking the dam that used to power the Ford plant located just above. Now there is a fancy overpriced housing development deal where the factory once stood but you kind of get the gist. I was trying to take a picture of the kayak idiots up by the dam but my camera wanted to focus on the dude and his dog - wearing matching outfits - fishing.
I walked a little closer to try and get a good shot but zoom hates chain link fence so I had to do that annoying tilt. And before you suggest that I edit the picture, don’t bother. I am not being paid to do this and I have an audience of roughly 20 so let’s just leave it there.
That’s a better shot and I’m walking down a steep path to get to that observation area with the trees and benches. It might not look like it, but ‘tis a drop.
The Army Corps of Engineers has it shut down most likely due to the time of year so this ended my expedition. Shitty for me as it gave no place to rest before trucking back up the hill.
I did get to walk under the Ford Parkway bridge and sample some of the local artwork. Next time I’ll take some shots higher up because I don’t understand how the people got there to decorate. Anyhow, I was smart enough this time to not attempt shopping on my way home as to eliminate the risk of public fainting and ambulance personnel interaction. The same fellas that helped me out a couple months ago were across the street last night and it felt like a bit of a warning.
If it is time for the final checkout I can think of worse places than DQ. Hopefully they got to eat whatever not-quite-ice-cream treat before the bus showed up.
