choices
I had a couple other must have won't live without in the frozen North things. The first was indoor heated parking. The heated part is a must when your commute to work is under five minutes because the car won't warm up by the time you park at your destination. I know you might be thinking that I should just warm up the car BEFORE I get in... but that just adds another layer of asspain to the morning commute. So heated garage was a must.
Next up was in-unit laundry. I realize that this is a splurge and I might have a total of two loads a week, three when linens are involved, but I am in no mood to sit and guard my stuff in a shared facility let alone schlepping my dirties to a laundromat. I understand this is a first world problem but I am the one making the choices and this is one. Finally, it needs to be bright and clean.
I realize that this first year alone might get a little dicey from a periodic mental point of view so living in a place that adds to the bummer is out of the question. Luckily the building I picked is brand new so I will be the first full time funk, construction crew aside. I will be cleaning it once I take possession because I have trust issues and work in the trades but first occupant has appeal.
The other added benefit of looking to move into a Minnesota apartment in winter during a pandemic gives the renter a little power in the negotiation department. The specials they were running are pretty good as well so there's that. I get the keys on Monday the 23rd and have ordered some furniture to arrive that Monday Tuesday or Wednesday. It will be a race between the bed and the couch and I don't care who wins as long as I have somewhere to sleep.
