bedpain
I kind of skated by the the whole bed purchase thing but it was an enormous pain in the ass. Soo many choices, too many. Where the hell to even start. I decided to go with list making psychopathic over analyzation. I began with my size and sleep style; big man mostly side but sometimes stomach sleeper. You would think that might narrow things down a lot but I was just getting started. I will not bore you with the two weeks of online research but I landed on the number two rated mattress from multiple sources for reasons I will explain.
I wanted a bed in a box. Mattress stores freak me out because they're everywhere. The margin on those things has to be huge to allow the same company to be open across from one another and both paying street facing retail rents. The people inside working are always sad and don't get me started on the pair of bridge trolls that delivered the last bed I bought. I wanted something vacuum sealed to meet me at my new place delivered by the United Parcel Service.
I like the satisfaction of cutting that thing open and watching it expand to its full size over the next day or so like the foam toys you threw in a bucket of water when I was a kid. Plus I needed an equally portable bed frame to arrive in a box as well because I do not need a five hundred pound matching oak bedroom set. I just don't want my mattress on the floor and I want to make future moving as easy as possible.
Next up was being able to send it back if I made the wrong choice. Most of the online vendors have at least a 100 day sleep trial and three months to figure out if I made the right decision seemed reasonable. There are some that give up to a year but that felt excessive. Plus I would always wonder if I got someone else's year old return... broken brain problems.
Found the company and the mattress so I needed to pick the size. Right now I am camped out on a queen bed and my feet hang off the end. Not the queen's fault as the same problem happens with my former king. What I really needed was a California king which robs some width and adds it on to the length. over the last 30 plus years I was never allowed to get one of these because; sheets, comforters, bedskirts, room size, etc. Then I realized that I am ordering this for ME with no input required from any other parties... so California here I come.
Side note: The sheets and comforter issues were grossly exaggerated. You just pick the size when ordering said same. Easy. And as I will be owning one comforter and two sets of sheets it doesn't feel like a long term problem. Also, the company I ended up going with includes a set of bamboo sheets with purchase so one less thing. I might be way out of the linen game but bamboo does not sound like a oof sheet material. I shall soon see.
And now I will see if they can work some magic and time it so things show up on the day I pick up my keys. Should be interesting but I will travel with a backup sleeping bag and pillow just in case things screw up.
