and just like that
*Editor's note: I thought I published this thing on Sunday. Not that you needed to know that but I felt like tattling on myself. I will post again this weekend but waste not want not.
I was out of town this week and got a text out of the blue asking if I was around on Friday. I would be getting home late afternoon and it turned out that one of my friends was coming in town that day for work wondering if I wanted to hang out. Why yes I would.. I gave him the codes to enter my place and whilst on my flight back I received the following picture to let me know he got there okay.
It seems he got in and had time to look around a bit finding my New Orleans crown to use as his proof of life picture. I immediately experienced regrets. When I finally made it home I walked in to music playing which I initially attributed to my minipod things but that would be weird as he is a stubborn android dude with little patience for my all over the board musical taste. Then I noticed my table.
He brought a member of his stable of speakers normally used to crank music so loud that it drives people from rooms. Wait, I should explain that. Dave loves music. HIS music. It’s a mix of heavy and heavier metal with some shit sprinkled in that you might have heard before. I’m not shitting on his listening preferences you need to know the details for the sake of the story. So when he has been drinking and something comes on that he really likes the volume goes up. It goes up so high that people can’t talk to one another. So inevitably what happens is everyone is in a room talking and having a good time, Dave hears a song that he loves so he cranks it, gradually then suddenly everyone moves to a different location so they can continue communicating, and the next thing Dave thinks is “hey, where did everybody go?”
Once he notices that the crowd has moved he moves as well because, human nature. Problem is he brings his sound array with him and the cycle repeats itself. This isn’t so bad during our summer gatherings because you can just relocate outside or swim away from the noise. It really shows up in winter where you are trapped.
Luckily this is a mini version and there was no-one for him to annoy in my place but himself so the volume was just regular. I had no fears as Friday I took him to my favorite restaurant where we proceeded to get pretty tuned up. A quick stop at a bar on the way home and we could barely pay attention to whatever we watched before passing out. So rough was the evening that we spent Saturday night just watching movies and making feeble attempts at having a couple more drinks.
I love a good weekend out of nowhere. A zero pressure friend is always welcome.
